How to Create and Edit a Group Policy Object (GPO)
Before you can create of edit a Group Policy Object you will need to make sure you have the Group Policy Management Tools installed on your computer. To check if the tools are installed press [Windows Key + R] and type “gpmc.msc” and click “OK”. If the Group Policy Management Application does not start you will need to install the tools before continuing.

When entering new group policy settings, you may choose to edit an existing Group Policy Object (GPO) or create a new GPO to contain associated settings in one place.
Creating a new GPO
- Start the Group Policy Management application. Press [Windows Key + R] and type “gpmc.msc” and click “OK”.
- Navigate to the Domain you want to manage and then navigate to the Group Policy Objects container.
- Right click the container and select “New” to create a new GPO. Name the GPO, we suggest something descriptive such as “Global MetaLAN Settings”.
- Click “OK” to create the new GPO.
Editing a GPO
- Start the Group Policy Management application. Press [Windows Key + R] and type “gpmc.msc” and click “OK”
- Navigate to the Domain you want to manage and then navigate to the Group Policy Objects container.
- To begin editing a GPO, right click the GPO and select “Edit…”. The GPO will open in the Group Policy Management Editor.
