MetaLAN Server 2.0.2.49 Release 27th January 2010

MetaLAN Server is part or the MetaLAN Systems Management Suite of software.
The MetaLAN Server service periodically scans your network and stores the information it collects for quick retrieval by MetaLAN Administrator and License Manager, software inventory tool.
MetaLAN Server can be installed on Windows, XP, Server 2003, Vista, Server 2008, Windows 7.
Both 32bit and 64bit versions of Windows are supported.
Windows Server 2003 or later is recommend because of performance limitations imposed on the Windows XP network stack in XP Service Pack 2.
Previous versions of MetaLAN Server were called MetaLAN ProbeServer. The ProbeServer name has been discontinued and MetaLAN Server is it's replacement.
It is recommended that read the installation guide before installing.

- Fixed issue that caused network discovery to only happen on service startup in version 2.0.1.47

License Manager is a free add-on for MetaLAN that simplifies licensing compliance. License Manager allows easy monitoring and reporting of installed software on your network. ProbeServer is required.

ProbeServer has been discontinued and MetaLAN Server is it's replacement.
ProbeServer is a free add-on for MetaLAN Administrator. Please use MetaLAN Administrator 1.8.5.100 or later. ProbeServer is a service that runs on a computer on your network. It collects the same data as MetaLAN Administrator but stores this information centrally for quick retrieval. When using MetaLAN Administrator on networks with over 200 nodes or when more than 1 administrator is using MetaLAN. However, ProbeServer will work on smaller networks and MetaLAN Administrator can run in standalone mode on any sized network if desired.

ProbeServer does not require regular maintenance to continue to work reliably.
However, if you want to keep the database in tip top condition you can use the database tool.
Remove old or redundant data like software titles that are no longer installed on the network.
This version is also compatible with MetaLAN Server 2.0.1.47
